Obituary for Mary Lou Baragar

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, Mary Lou Baragar, at Valley Manor Long Term Care in Barry's Bay on January 18, 2023 at the age of 89. Mary Lou (Donaldson) Baragar, beloved wife of the late Ted Baragar, loving mother of Tim of Bancroft and Tammy (& Charles) of Madawaska, cherished and doting Nana to Rebecca and Olivia (& Russell) and beloved sister of Larry (& Lorraine) Donaldson, Bert (& Betty Lou) Donaldson, Peg (& the late Boyd) Donaldson, Dixie (& John) Lang, Ted (& Lois) Donaldson, Linda (& Tom) Lavalley, Mick (& Karen) Donaldson and Peter (& Kathy) Donaldson. Mary Lou was predeceased by her siblings: Annabelle (& Danny) Neuman, Jacquie (& Merle) Grant, Pat (& Jan) Donaldson and by her parents, Jack and Amy (Carswell) Donaldson. She will be lovingly remembered by her nephews and nieces and their families and by the Baragar family and her many friends. Mom was born in Maynooth on May 13, 1933, the second eldest child of Jack and Amy (Carswell) Donaldson. At the young age of eighteen months, Mom was stricken with polio. Despite grave odds, she pushed through and demonstrated that strong will and determination her entire life. Her married life in Lake St. Peter encompassed many happy times. A later move to Bancroft when Dad retired also was a most enjoyable time for Mom. A move to Valley Manor five years ago became necessary following Dad's death and the onset of dementia. The past three years have been tough ones for her, having lost the ability to speak any longer. A little fighter to the very end, you can now return to the dance floor Mom and awe those watching as you gracefully float around the floor with Dad! We would like to convey our heartfelt thanks to the amazing personal support workers and nursing staff of Valley Manor for their exemplary care of Mom. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Neuman Family Funeral Home. Visitation was held from the Bancroft Pentecostal Tabernacle on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 1-3:30 with the funeral service following at 3:30. Rev. David Watson officiated. Interment will take place in St. Paul's United Church Cemetery in Lake St. Peter in the spring. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Bancroft Hospital or to the St. Frances Valley Healthcare Foundation in Barry's Bay in Mom's memory.
