Obituary for Mary Ellen Black

Mary Ellen Black passed away unexpectedly at her residence on December 14, 2023 at the age of 79. Mary Ellen (Fisk) Black, beloved wife of the late Ron Black, loving mother of Kary (& Cara) of London, devoted grandmother of Brenna and Kieren and dear sister of Loren (& Marion) Fisk of Eagle Lake and lovingly remembered by her nephews and their families. Mary Ellen was born in Bancroft and resided here for her entire life. She was employed as a public school teacher for 35 years having taught in Whitney, Paudash and Bancroft. It was clearly her passion and she loved the children she taught and the fellow teachers whom she taught with. Many of those bonds have remained to present day. Mary Ellen was a devout member of St. Paul's United Church and was very involved in many activities there but her heart was always devoted to St. Matthew's United Church in Baptiste where her involvement and determination has resulted in the church's ability to remain open during the summer months. In either location, Mary Ellen rarely missed a service or event and most likely played a role in the planning of same. Her attention to detail was evident in everything she did and in every relationship she shared. Mary Ellen never missed the birthday or any other event in the life of anyone she knew it seemed. Hastings Centennial Manor played an important part in her life after retirement. Many hours were spent there helping to care for elderly members of her family. Mary Ellen's legacy of being kind and helpful to everyone she knew and her quiet unassuming presence will live on in the memories of her family and friends. Gone too soon and leaving huge voids in many places.....but Mary Ellen, may you now rest in peace!
