Obituary for Marie Martin
Marie (Dewey) Martin passed away at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on Monday, February 6, 2023 following a brief illness. Marie Martin, beloved wife and best friend of Barry, loving mother of Shelley and Curtis, loving grandmother of Kaitlyn and Kirsten and lovingly remembered by her daughter in law, Tammy Wright and by her siblings: James, Bruce, Randy and Ed Dewey and June Manley. Marie was predeceased by her parents, James Dewey and Myrtle Staley.
Marie was raised in Gooderham, went to Teachers College in Peterborough and taught elementary school in Oshawa, Wilberforce, Bancroft schools, and Tweed. Although she loved teaching, her main interest was raising a family and being wife and best friend of Barry. She was a member of St Paul's United Church and enjoyed curling and skiing as well. The family cottage at Baptiste Lake was one of her favourite places - including so many lunches on the boat. She was a frequent "navigator" for Barry on many R.V. trips across North America, and loved her Florida home too. For many years, she and Barry traveled, visiting so many countries around the world, mainly on cruises. Five years ago both of them traveled completely around the globe.
Later in life, she devoted much time to her two grand daughters - Kaitlyn and Kirsten. She and Barry built their house in Bancroft, which has been their main residence for over 49 years.
She was always eager to meet people and certainly had food ready for any lunches, dinners, or snacks for any company dropping in. She leaves a huge void in the family. She will be lovingly remembered forever.
