Condolence From: Don Patterson
Condolence: Stuart and Arlene, we haven't seen each other in a long while but our thoughts are with you in this time of loss. Frances was a great lady and Uncle Clarence sure loved her baked bread, as well as our childhood memories together growing up in Maynooth and North Baptiste Lake. We have lost another great lady. Sincerely Don Patterson, RR1 Baltimore, ON. Glen Blair and Karen Shaw also send there blessings.

Condolence: Our sympathies to Stuart, Arlene and family - we'll miss Frances, her smile. She was a good friend to our Mom and ourselves, earliest memories are of the Baptiste store as kids. And the smell of Frances's baking bread and pies - who can forget that? Over the years, discovered lots of common interests - books and history, local art, birds/nature, jigsaw puzzles, beloved pet cats etc. - oh yes - occasional wine and more frequently sweets, goodies. Frances grew lovely roses in the sand up north for years and before selling her cottages, invited us to dig up some of her hydrangea - we've no green thumb but each spring it pops out of our shady, woodsy lot beside the path.

Frances worked hard at her cottages after Alex passed for so many years - she was determined to stay home and run her business as long as she could. So she did thanks to wonderful family support from Stuart and Arlene, and some dear friends over the years. Giving up driving the truck was a hard pill to swallow but she knew it had to to done. While aging was frustrating at times, rarely a complaint - interested in life all the years we knew Frances. She knit until her hands would not cooperate - we still use a couple of her dish cloths, so well made.

So many memories...We started going up to Blueberry Island cabin most weekends all 4 seasons about 15 years ago. We'd pop in and find Frances was cozy and happy with Sam despite some wicked winter weather. Recall one March snow storm that dumped almost 3 feet of drifted snow in 24 hours. Snowmobiled over the next morning in brilliant March sunshine to dig Frances door out - our SUV was almost up to the roof with drifting.

We visited and spoke to Frances a week ago Sunday, despite the oxygen she looked restful and lovely. Each visit over the years, she always let us how much she appreciated Stuart and her family - not easy to accept help but she felt so fortunate.

So our fondest farewell to Frances today and to Stuart and family - our love and support.

Condolence: We've been visiting our cabin on LaVallee Bay since the 1960s, and Frances and Scott's Cottages were always a big part of the lake for us. At the store, Frances always kept lots of goodies for the kids, and seemed to have one of whatever you needed hiding in a deep freezer... and knew just where it was. And if it wasn't there, she'd often go into her own personal refrigerator to get it for you. If you lucked out, there was an delicious fresh pie and/or a loaf of warm bread on the counter.

Being on an island, many years back we lost our mainland docking and were in a real bind. It was Frances that came through for us, finding room for us to dock at the store as long as she ran it.

Sometimes we'd arrive to see a couple legs sticking out from under one of the cabins...it would be Frances making repairs. She was a character in the best sense of the word; one with a good sense of humour and a very large heart. She's left us with so many great memories, and will always remain a part of Baptiste Lake for us. It was a great experience to have known her.
