Obituary for Ernest George Westwood
Ernest (Ernie) Westwood passed peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023 at the age of 94 after a lengthy illness. Ernie was the beloved husband of Joyce Westwood, and a much loved father of Eleanor (John), Brian (Margaret) and the late Keith. Loved dearly by his grandchildren: Brad (Shihori), Calais (Doug), Duncan, Janette, Natalie and Graeme (Josee) as well as his great-grandchildren Rino, Kainoah, Annalise, Maxwell & Benjamin.
Ernest will be very missed by his stepchildren Michele (Neil) and Gary as well as his step grandchildren Jeremy (Megan), Rebecca (Ryan) and Samantha.
Ernie was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and on arriving in Canada became a proud Canadian. He was Chief Engineer at Chedoke McMaster Hospital(Chedoke campus) in Hamilton for many years. Once retired he moved to Cardiff full time to be close to a much loved family built cottage, now filled with special memories by four generations of family members. He was a talented musician, with his own band, playing in the Hamilton area for many years. He loved all sports, especially the ‘beautiful game’, the great outdoors, fishing, gardening, cooking and was the family’s favourite bread maker. He was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion branches in Cardiff, Hamilton and Burlington.
A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held at a later date. The family requests donations to honour Ernie be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Cardiff Branch, the Canadian Cancer Society or Threads of Life.
